She describes the perseverance, persuasion, and respect for her members that it took to succeed, but also the joy of seeing America change for the better. [00:05:25] Speaker A: The Court of Last Resort the true story of a team of crime experts who fought to save the wrongfully convicted. DB 121531 by Earl Stanley Gardner In 1945, Earl Stanley Gardner, noted attorney and author of the popular Perry Mason mysteries, was contacted by an overwhelmed California public defender who believed his doomed client was innocent. William Marvin Lindley had been convicted of the rape and murder of a young girl along the banks of the Yuba river and was awaiting execution at San Quentin. After reviewing his case, Gardner agreed to help. It seemed the fate of the redheaded killer hinged on the testimony of a colorblind witness. Gardner's intervention sparked the Court of Last Resort, the Innocence Project of its day. This ambitious and ultimately successful undertaking was devoted to investigating, reviewing, and reversing wrongful convictions. Owing to poor legal representation, prosecutorial abuses, biased police activity, bench corruption, unreliable witnesses, and careless forensic evidence testimony, the crimes rape, murder, kidnapping, and manslaughter the prisoners underprivileged and and vulnerable men wrongly convicted and condemned to life sentences or death row with only one the devotion of Earl Stanley Gardner and the Court of Last Resort.

[00:08:42] Speaker B: Sun the Disillusionment of America's Founders DB124055 by Dennis C. Rasmussen Whatever sense of hope the founder fathers may have felt at the new government's birth, almost none of them carried that optimism to their graves. Franklin survived to see the Constitution in action only for a single year, but most of the founders who lived into the 19th century came to feel deep anxiety, disappointment, and even despair about the government and the nation they had helped to create. Indeed, by the end of their lives, many of the founders judged the Constitution that we now venerate to be an utter failure that was unlikely to last beyond their own generation. This book tells the story of their disillusionment. The book focuses principally on four of the preeminent figures of the period 1787 George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. These four lost their faith in the American experiment at different times and for different reasons, and each has his own unique story.
London's number one dog walking agency DB123851 by Kate McDougall In 2006, Kate McDougall was working a safe but dull job at the venerable auction house Sotheby's in London after a clumsy accident nearly destroyed a precious piece of art. She quit Sotheby's and set up her own dog walking company. Kate knew little about dogs and nothing about business, and no one thought being a professional dog walker was a good use of her university degree. Nevertheless, Kate embarked upon an entirely new and very much improvised career walking some of the city's many pampered pooches, branding her company London's number one dog walking agency. With sharp wit, delightful observations and plenty of canine affection, Kate reveals her unique and unconventional coming of age story as told through the dogs and the London homes and neighborhoods they inhabit. One walk at a time, she journeys from a haphazard 20 something to a happily and surprisingly settled adult with love, relationships, drama and home ownership along the way. But as Kate says, it's all down to the dogs and what they taught her about London and life.
The Great Crash DB123935 by John Kenneth Galbraith of Galbraith's classic examination of the 1929 financial collapse, the Atlantic Monthly said economic writings are seldom notable for their entertainment value, but this book is. Galbraith's prose has grace and wit and he distills a good deal of sardonic fun from the whopping errors of the nation's oracles and the wondrous antics of the financial community. Now, with the stock market riding historic highs, the celebrated economist returns with new insights on the legacy of our past and the consequences of blind optimism and power plays within the financial community.
