[00:01:13] Speaker C: The Library is proud to announce that there is a finalist from Iowa competing in the Braille Challenge Finals. Aria M is a finalist in the Apprentice Group. [00:01:32] Speaker A: Now for the top 10 nonfiction books downloaded from Bard the Bathroom Thinker 5000 Facts from the Smartest Brand in the World DB125600 by Kyle Brock American MENSA presents the brilliant bathroom reader, the ultimate book of 5,000 facts, curated by the world's smartest brand. Perfect to expand any curious mind. Whether gearing up for a big trivia night or simply wanting to give your brain something interesting to think about, this big book of 5,000 facts from the smartest brand in the world fits the bill. These facts will make you think. They'll make you wonder. You may even want to research more about some of these topics. Most of all, you'll have a ton of fun learning about everything from Thomas Edison's attempts at mind reading to Dr. Lucy King's beehive fences that scare elephants, from destroying farms connecting a Blind Life DB 127356 by Joshua Alexander Mayel and Wendell Jamison When Joshua Meyel was four years old, he answered his front door and a mentally disturbed neighbor poured a cup of acid over his head, horrifically burning him and blinding him for life. It was a tragedy that could have destroyed him. But instead, Maelle, naturally curious and a born engineer, not only recovered but flourished, finding increasingly inventive ways not only to help himself thrive in a world built for the sighted, but to help others do the same. In connecting dots, a reference to Braille and a metaphor for Maille's explorations and discoveries, readers are treated to a memoir that is as illuminating as it is entertaining and ultimately, as triumphant as they come. In 2022, Maill fulfilled a nearly lifelong dream when he won a MacArthur genius grant. Melania DB125049 by Melania Trump in her memoir, Melania reflects on her Slovenian childhood, the pivotal moments that led her to the world of high fashion in Europe and New York, and the serendipitous meeting with Donald Trump, a chance encounter that forever changed the course of her life. Melania opens up about their courtship, life in the spotlight and experiencing the joy of motherhood. She shares behind the scenes stories from her time in the White House, shedding light on her advocacy work and the causes close to her heart. [00:03:56] Speaker B: The Price of Valor the Life of Audie Murphy, America's most Decorated Hero of World War II DB127905 by David A. Smith in the first biography covering his entire life, including his severe PTSD and his tragic death at the age of 45, the unusual story of Audie Murphy, the most decorated hero of World War II, is brought to life for a new generation. Take me An Autobiography, DB 125046 by John Denver and Arthur Tobier John Denver chronicles the experiences that shaped his life while unraveling the rich inner journey of a shy Midwestern boy whose uneasy partnership with fame has been one of the defining forces for his first 50 years. Levi's eyes A son's deadly secret and a father's cruel betrayal DB 125876 by Aphrodite Jones Levi's eyes delves into the unspeakable murders of Christina and Levi Carlson, as told by the killer himself. It's a must read for true crime addicts who dare to go deep into a killer's mind. In it, readers will learn how the murders of Christina Carlson and her son Levi Carlson, committed 17 years apart, are intricately connected. There's a hidden thread here, one that has not yet been revealed to the public. Showing that Levi kept dark secrets, this book exposes both sides of the twisted marriage between Carl and Cindy Carlson as readers are taken through increasing levels of horror, step by step, into the depravity inside the killer's head. The Prayer Book of the Bible DB 128211 by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Walter Brueggemann Jesus died with a psalm on his lip. For millennia, humans have been shaped by the Psalms, and before the Nazis banned him from publishing, German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer published this book on the Psalms. What comfort is found in the Psalter? What praise and and what challenge? What threat in Psalms, the Prayer Book of the Bible. Discover the richness this book of Scripture held for Bonhoeffer and learn to pray Psalms along with Christ. First published in 1940, this classic reveals how the Psalms are essential to life of the believer and offers Bonhoeffer's reflections on psalms of thanksgiving, suffering, guilt, praise and lament. Now with an introduction by Walter Bruegerman, the excerpts from the Psalms, Bonhoeffer's timeless work offers contemporary audiences ancient wisdom and resources for the living of these days.
