The grand marshal of this year's parade is no other than regal Pug aptly named King George. Jules is delighted to get to share the experience with Carlos and Romero, but things take a dark turn when she discovers a dragon slumped in front of the bakeshop. Jules is distraught when she realizes the dragon is dead. She's also shaken because a few days before the parade, her mother's mahjong partner Helen, discovers a warning note about a dragon in an antique game set. Jules hopes it's just a random coincidence, but as the clues begin to unfold, it becomes evident that there's been a murder on All Hallows Eve. [00:07:32] Speaker B: Our featured magazine for October is Asimov's Science Fiction. Published by Monthly, it offers a collection of short stories, novelettes and features centered around science fiction themes. This magazine is available in audio format on cartridge or as a download version through Bard. [00:07:53] Speaker A: Greetings readers. Leland here with another tech tip with the NLS E readers receiving the new 3.0 update, I wanted to share what has changed and how to update your device. What's new in version 3.0? The NLS eReader can now connect via Bluetooth to both Android devices and Apple TVs, specifically Android 15 and TVOS 14.5 or later. This allows you to both enter text and read content from these devices directly on your E reader. Search bard using Bard 2.0 features, including the new advanced search options search bookshare with enhanced tools such as creating your own reading lists or subscribing to public reading lists for book recommendations. Use the new Download and Open option to automatically open a title as soon as it finishes downloading. Access to a built in dictionary to look up word definitions while reading books or magazines how to update your NLS ereader There are two easy ways to update one via Wi Fi. If your eReader is connected to a stable Wi Fi network, you'll automatically receive a prompt to update two via cartridge. If you don't use WI Fi, just give us a call and request the update on a cartridge. Once connected, your E reader will prompt you to install the update. You can check your current version anytime by going to settings about where the version number will be listed. Keeping your E reader up to date ensures smooth performance and access to all the latest features. [00:10:17] Speaker C: Josh here. For this month's staff pick, I'm picking one of my favorite books recorded at the library this year, Money, Power and the Corruption of America's Food Industry by Austin Ferrik, DBC 28626 Barents tells the story of seven powerful figures in the global food industry, their rise, the empires they built, and the fallout for workers, consumers and democracy at large. Readers will uncover the story of a recluse German dynasty that came to dominate the coffee trade worldwide in under 10 years, fueled by fortunes tied to the Nazi regime and a relentless spree of acquisitions. They'll journey to the Disneyland of agriculture, where children ride trams past massive automated barns housing tens of thousands of cows that never step outside. And they'll discover how, in the world of food, corruption is often rewarded, especially when it involves bribing and betraying a president, as happened in Brazil. While Barents exposes the dark side of corporate consolidation, it also offers hope, revealing that a just, sustainable and thriving food system is within reach if we reclaim control from the moguls who have seized it. [00:11:36] Speaker B: Join us as our library spends the week of October 19th through the 25th, 2025 celebrating our amazing Friends of the Library group.
